WISH LIST
2011 - 2012
Legislative Session
These are the bills we would like to see passed in a future
legislative session.
Adult Club Regulation
Sexually-oriented businesses, which in many cases are fronts for
prostitution, exploit women and need to be more strictly regulated.
Status: No bill introduced.
Unborn Victims (Civil)
We have a new criminal penalty. There should also be civil penalties
for harm to an unborn child in the commission of a crime.
Status: No bill introduced.
Pay Day Lender Regulation 2011
Closes loopholes in the 2009 law.
Status: No bill introduced.
Eliminate “Common Law” Marriage (S.60)
Only 11 states still recognize this “least common denominator” form
of relationship.
Status:
Senate. Awaiting a hearing in Judiciary Committee.
Sponsors:
Senators Larry Martin, Campsen and Fair.
Teen Driving Reform (S.210)
Requires a teenager younger than 16 to hold a learner’s permit for a
least one year before being eligible for a restricted driver’s
license.
Sponsors:
Senators Lourie and Rankin.
Abstinence-Based Sexuality Education Funding / SC Health Law
These programs need to be protected in the state budget
and federal grant programs should not undermine the state Health
Education law that requires abstinence to be strongly emphasized.
Status:
No bill introduced.
Working Family Tax Rates
We always monitor changes to the IRS code and how those changes
affect the SC code. There should never be a Marriage Penalty and per
child tax credits should be increased. The legislature should also
consider an Earned Income Tax Credit for working poor families.
Status:
No bill introduced.
